North happy to share workload at Saints

He may have been credited for turning around Northampton Saints’ fortunes at the weekend but British & Irish Lion George North was quick to point out the entire team effort.

North scored his second try in as many games when he burst across the line shortly after half-time against Harlequins – a score director of rugby Jim Mallinder described as crucial for their victory.

The 21-year-old moved to Saints at the start of the season from Welsh side Scarlets, having starred in the Lions’ series victory down under this summer.

But keen not to take all the plaudits, the Welsh winger insists their recent form is the result of a strong effort right across the pitch.

“Like last week it was a good team performance from one to 15," the Welshman told BT Sport. “We've been told by the coaches that we've got to share the workload. We've got a tremendous pack here and they'll work all day for us, but if we can't share that work we're not a team.

“It was one of those games where you have to keep on working for the chances to come your way, and they did today.

“We had to keep our tempo up and my try just kicked things off in the second half.”
