Fly-half Farrell’s injury fears eased

British & Irish Lions fly-half Owen Farrell will have breathed a sigh of relief with the news that he did not sustain a serious foot injury against Northampton Saints this weekend.

Farrell, who was part of the Lions series-winning 41-16 victory over Australia after coming off the bench in the third Test, did not return for the second half as Saracens beat Northampton 28-24 on Sunday.

And with Saracens competing for both domestic and European titles still, not to mention England’s summer tour of 2017 British & Irish Lions opponents New Zealand fast approaching, Farrell faced an anxious wait to discover the extent of his injury.

But his fears have been erased with a club statement saying: "Owen Farrell will resume training towards the end of this week.

"The Saracens and England fly-half sustained a foot injury during the match against Northampton Saints on Sunday, but scans have indicated no serious damage."
