Kaino counting down days to 2017 Lions tour

Blues captain and All Black back row Jerome Kaino believes facing the British & Irish Lions on their 2017 tour of New Zealand will be one of the highlights of his career so far.

With the Lions’ 2017 schedule announced last week, the Auckland-based side will host the Sea of Red for their second tour clash at Eden Park on Wednesday June 7.

As part of this historic tour, the 50,000-seater venue will also be the venue for two Test matches against the All Blacks – where the Lions will look to end a 46-year wait for a series victory over the Kiwis.

And Kaino admits the countdown has already begun to what will be a huge date in the Blues’ club history.

“One of the reasons I have signed with the Blues and New Zealand Rugby for three years is to have the opportunity to play against the Lions,” he said.

“To lead the Blues to our Fortress at Eden Park against the Lions in front of our friends, family and fans in what I hope would be a sell-out crowd will be incredibly special.”
