Bernard Gadney was an England captain and scrum-half who captained the Lions on their 1936 Tour to Argentina where they won all ten matches.
The boat took five weeks to reach Buenos Aires, by which time the team had kicked all their rugby balls over the side and were practising with life jackets.
Gadney earned 14 international caps, captaining the side eight times, and led England to the Triple Crown in 1934 and to their first victory over New Zealand two years later.
The scrum-half, who also captained the Barbarians, is remembered as the man who started the move that led to Prince Alexander Obolensky's great try against the All Blacks in 1936.
