Though not a true bolter, Gareth Evans was as good as new to the Test arena when he got the call-up for the Lions Tour to New Zealand in 1977.
His one and only cap with Wales had come as a replacement in the defeat to France that same year, but Lions coach John Dawes and the selectors had clearly seen enough.
The wing impressed in the early warm-up games, racking up four tries through eight appearances, and though he was not called upon for the first Test his time would soon come.
He replaced JJ Williams on the wing for the second encounter in Christchurch, which would mark the sole Test victory on that Tour.
Evans gathered two more Lions caps but his Test career was however a brief one – he appeared just twice more for Wales, though enjoyed a long club career for Newport.
