Flanker Robert Alexander toured South Africa with the Lions in 1938 playing in all three Test matches.

The Irishman featured in 14 of the 24 Tour matches, scoring six tries. One of those came in the final Test against the Springboks at Newlands, which the Lions won 21-16, and he crossed twice in a 45-11 defeat of Rhodesia that preceded the first Test.

Alexander represented Ireland at cricket as well as rugby, and was a useful seam bowler.

He died, aged 33, in battle while serving with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during the Second World War.
