England full-back Willie Mitchell first played for England in 1890, a year before being selected by the Lions for their Tour to South Africa.
Having previously played for Cambridge University, Mitchell then moved to Richmond and made his debut for England on their return to the international game in 1890.
His performances the following year in the Home Nations Championship earned him a call-up to the South Africa Tour, and he played in all 20 games on the Tour.
He was a fine goal-kicker, and it was his drop goal in the second Test that was the only score in a 3-0 victory.
The Lions finished the Tour unbeaten, one of only two Lions sides ever to achieve this feat.
