Video: Te’o taking everything in his stride on Tour

Ben Te’o has never shied away from responsibility and as he prepares to make his third British & Irish Lions appearance, the 30-year-old is taking the 2017 tour in his stride.

“All I have been focusing on this week is getting my body right.”

As he did in the Lions’ victories over the Crusaders and the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians, Te’o will line-up at inside centre as Warren Gatland’s side face the Maori All Blacks at Rotorua International Stadium this Saturday.

The Worcester Warriors man is on his first tour with the Lions and the England international is simply looking forward to having another opportunity to run out with the team.

“I’m just looking forward to the game on Saturday,” Te’o said.

“I know they’re going to come out with a good squad; they’re a great team. It’s just another opportunity for me to get out there and play

“Really, all I have been focussing on this week is getting my body right, making sure I’m physically right to go.

“Obviously this is my first tour and I don’t really know how things work with the games and selection and stuff like that, so when I get an opportunity to get on the field, I just play hard and get ready and wait for the next selection.”

Te’o will be lining up alongside Johnny Sexton, as he did in the first match of the tour and at his previous club Leinster, and the Lions centre had high praise for the Irish fly-half.

He said: “The way Johnny runs things is very vocal. He likes to run it all and the main thing you probably have to do is just react quick – that’s what he wants.

“When he gives you his chat about what he wants, just do it quick and get the guys organised and he runs the show. I’m used to playing with Johnny and I’m looking forward to Saturday.”

Although Te’o is enjoying his time with the squad, he is fully focussed on Saturday’s opposition and doing the best he can for the shirt.

The 30-year-old concluded: “I love being involved in their squad and training with these guys but on the flip side, I think when you’re here now and you’re getting ready for these games and coming up against such great opposition, there’s no time to be looking around and thinking: ‘oh, how good’s this?’.

“It’s about going out there and challenging the opposition, being physical and playing well, and that’s pretty much what I’ve been focussing on.”
