Video: Spencer and Farrell on the team to face Highlanders

The British & Irish Lions unveiled their side to take on the Highlanders on Sunday night and assistant coach Andy Farrell has challenged the players selected to push their claims for Test selection.

“The lads know that games are getting closer to the first Test now.”

Sam Warburton returns to captain the side in Dunedin as the Lions take on the Highlanders under the roof of the Forsyth Barr Stadium on Tuesday.

The Lions downed the Crusaders last weekend in a pulsating third match of the Tour at AMI Stadium in Christchurch and the challenge is now to build on that momentum into the Test series against the All Blacks.

The first Test at Eden Park is now less than a fortnight away, and Farrell has called on this side to put their best foot forward.

“We do reflect after the third game because we have made it public that everyone is going to get a start, and everyone has got a start.

“And you can just see in the last few days, the lads owning the plans and getting hold of it. And that makes all the difference.

“The performance of that 23 against the Crusaders was for the whole 41-man squad, that is the feeling within the group.

“If you are watching that game from the sidelines, in the stand, you are supporting your teammates and raring them on to victory.

“But if you are watching that game, you are brimming with excitement for Tuesday to come around to add to that performance.

“The lads know that games are getting closer to the first Test now, they all know no matter who against it is a chance to put their best foot forward.”
