Haskell avoids lengthy ban

Wasps and England back row James Haskell has escaped a lengthy ban after being found guilty of dangerous play in a ruck.

The 23-year-old has been suspended for one week after an incident involving Greg Rawlinson in the defeat to Worcester Warriors at Adams Park on September 14.

Haskell had been in danger of receiving a ban of between six weeks and two years for a headbutting offence but the RFU panel found him guilty of the far lesser charge of dangerous play in a ruck.

The length of the ban means Haskell will miss this Friday’s match against Leicester at Welford Road but that he will be available for his club’s opening Heineken Cup fixtures and his country’s November internationals.
