Lions supporter Ellie Panter can tell you first hand that the relationship goes both ways, after a close encounter with Owen Farrell after the Crusaders game, as the fly half turned photographer!

“We made our way forwards where everyone else was heading out, and we just kept shouting out the players’ names as they walked round the pitch,” Ellie explained.

“Owen came over and chatted, we asked for a picture and he said ‘awesome, I’ll take it!’. He grabbed the phone and that was it!

“It was such a good night and great to get a picture with Owen – it was just awesome.”

Farrell’s selfie with the fans was captured by a Lions photographer and then used as part of a gallery about the Crusaders game on Facebook, where Ellie and another fan replied sharing their photos from the other side of the camera!

What better story to highlight the bond between Lions players and fans – and on National Selfie Day too!
