Conor Murray earns selection for his first British & Irish Lions tour having established himself as Ireland’s first-choice scrum-half. The 24-year-old now has 19 international caps to his name having made his Test debut against France in a World Cup warm up in Bordeaux in August 2011.
His first senior appearance for his country came after just 10 RaboDirect PRO12 games for Munster, of which only six were starts. His fine form and obvious promise saw him replace 2009 Lions selection Tomas O’Leary and Ireland veteran Peter Stringer as the number one No9 at his province and he has now replicated that position in the national side after a running battle with Leinster’s Eoin Reddan and Isaac Boss.
He started each of his team’s Championship fixtures in February and March after doing the same in the autumn Tests against South Africa and Argentina and the three-Test summer tour of New Zealand. He has therefore been an ever present in the Ireland starting XV for the past 10 Tests and only missed 33 minutes of action throughout the entire RBS 6 Nations.
His first, and so far only, Test try in the second international against the All Blacks in June of last year as Ireland came agonisingly close to an historic success.
International honours at U20 level in the same season that the Lions were last on tour in South Africa preceded his step up to the senior Ireland side and a year later he represented Garryowen FC in the Irish Cup Final and Munster A in the British and Irish Cup Final.
A product of the Munster Academy, he was a RaboDirect PRO12  winner with Munster in 2011, just over a year after making his first-team debut against Connacht.
